No, I do not recommend this product.

I've just received this timer so I can't speak to its working or durability, but I want to forewarn any potential purchasers --- the instructions are abominable! And quality control at assembly is apparently lacking as mine arrived with two screws that are meant to hold the batter compartment door in place COMPLETELY MISSING!
For starters this has battery backup and comes with batteries installed thus the display is working. From this, I assumed I could proceed to programming the unit, before mounting it and connecting it inline to the pool pump I plan to use it for. WRONG.
I tried and tried and tried to get it to program to no avail. None of the menus worked as they should. Then it occurred to me perhaps it has to be plugged in and voila! it worked. You'd think the instructions would start with PLUG THE UNIT INTO A POWER SUPPLY but NO!
Another feature I don't care for is the ZIP timing where you can automatically set it to turn lights, etc off at a predetermined time after sunset. I don't plan to use that but the instructions are very unclear on how to avoid or override that feature.
The clock comes pre-set to Eastern time and is supposed to be left that way. By entering your area code it allegedly will automatically adjust the time. I still have not got that to work, power or not. I gave up and set it to my local Central Time.
Instructions for setting the time are also lacking and the system is a bit archaic. You can't simply change AM to PM, you have to push and hold the forward or reverse buttons to cycle the clock all the way around!
And portions of the display I know will be difficult to read outdoors because they're difficult to read when I can hold the display right to my face.
The unit may (or may not) work like a charm but I have doubts about its quality of assembly and the instructions should definitely be rewritten.
Product Featuresdifficult to program, lacking in quality control, poor instructions

when a timer indicates it has 2 channels; does this mean it can program 2 independent appliances with independent time schedules?

when a timer indicates it has 2 channels; does this mean it can program 2 independent pumps with independent time schedules? I want to turn my pool filter pump on at a certain time schedule and my pool sweeper on at a different time schedule.
That is correct - it will run two appliances independently.

Are each of the receptacles able to proram sparatey, or does one program control all three?

You can program each receptacle separately or run them together, either way. There is also a 3rd receptacle that will supply power to another device but is not operated by the timer.
